Minca is undoubtedly one of the best spots for birding in Colombia. So when I was chalking out my rough Colombia itinerary, I knew I simply HAD to check out this wonderful mountain town surrounded by lush green forests of Sierra Nevada.

With a population of only 800, it is easy to see and do a lot in the small town even if you are short on time. Minca is a little town based high in the mountains of Colombia and only a 40 minute drive from the city of Santa Marta.Whilst it may not be the prettiest town, it has everything you need to disconnect from the outside world and hit the reset button.

The hostels are situated on the jungle trails up from the town and are quite Glastonbury-esque… mama earth loving, yoga and vegetarian food.
